# Smash Bros. Ultimate - 1v1 Rules #

## All Ages ##
* Double Elimination
* 3 stock, 7 minutes
* Best of 3 Games per Set
* Best of 5 Games per Set starting in FINALS of the tournament
* Winner of prior game is allowed 3 Stage Bans prior to counterpicks
* “Character-first” counterpick procedure (characters are decided before stage counter-picks for games 2-5 in the set)
* No DSR (players are allowed to counterpick to a stage they won on earlier in the set if the stage is not banned by their opponent)
* Mutual Agreement is not permitted. Players may not agree to play on a stage that would otherwise violate the existing stage rules. A player who repeatedly attempts to coerce their opponent into such an agreement may be penalized with a game or set loss, depending on the severity and frequency of the infraction.
* If a game ends in a time over or with both players losing their last stocks simultaneously, the game’s winner is determined by the following criteria, in order:
	* Player with more stocks remaining
	* Player with less percent damage
	* New game on same stage with 1 stock and 2-minute timer
* If a game ends with the successful use of a character’s self-destruct move, the game’s winner is determined by the results screen if it appears, without exception
* In-game Sudden Death mode is ignored in all cases

## Controllers
* All controllers permitted so long as they do not contain macro or turbo functions that are not present in stock GameCube controllers.
* Wireless-capable controllers must be desynced after each tournament set played.
* Warm-up periods and controller tests may not exceed 60 seconds on the in-game timer.

## Banned Activities
* Coaching is banned (N/A to “9-13 kids” Age Group)
* Loading content onto consoles without authorization from tournament officials is banned
* Amiibos are banned

## Set Procedure
### Pre-Finals
* Random map selection
* Loser chooses map

### Finals/Grand Finals
* Prior to Game 1:
	* Competitors select their characters for Game 1, either competitor may request a Double-Blind character selection
	* Competitors play a best-of-1 in Rock-Paper-Scissors (RPS), the winner of RPS will choose to strike either first or second
	* Competitors take turns removing stages from the list of 5 starter stages (see above) in a P1-P2-P2-P1 order, the stage that remains is the stage for Game 1
* Between Games in the Set (“Character-first” procedure):
	* Without performing any actions on the character select screen, the Winner of prior game selects their character for the next game by announcing the character’s name for the Loser of the prior game to hear, they are allowed to switch characters
	* Without performing any actions on the character select screen, the Loser of prior game selects their character for the next game by announcing the character’s name for the Winner of the prior game to hear, they are allowed to switch characters
	* Winner of prior game bans 3 stages from the full list of legal stages including both starters and counterpicks, these bans are effective for the next game only and do not persist throughout the set
	* Loser of the prior game selects the stage for the next game from the remaining unbanned stages, they are allowed to select a stage they won on earlier in the set if it is unbanned (no DSR)
	* Both players select their characters on the character select screen, they must choose the same characters they announced prior to stage counterpicks
