- Matches are played in the ‘Battle’ game mode. Players compete in a single best of 3 match (best of 5 in Winner's finals, Loser's finals, and Grand finals).
- The game option settings will be set as follows; Mode = Battle, Lives = 4, Time = 8 minutes, Players = 2.
- Infinite combos (offensive move sequences which can be performed indefinitely and cannot be escaped by the defending player) are not allowed. Usage of an infinite combo will result in a forfeiture of that set.
Character Selection:
- In the first round of a match the competitors will choose their characters at the same time. A blind pick can be requested with a tournament official, if a blind pick is requested each competitor will privately inform the tournament official which character they will play in round 1, these choices are binding and the tournament official will ensure the players play their selected character. In subsequent rounds the winner of the previous round will pick their character first, confirm their selection, and then the loser of the previous round will select their character.
Stage Selection:
- The stage for the first round of a match is determined by a stage strike (players determining the stage played on by process of elimination). To stage strike the players will play rock-paper-scissors to determine who strikes first. The first player to strike will strike 1 stage, the second player will strike 2 stages, then the first player will strike 1 stage again, and the remaining stage will be played on in the first round.
- In the subsequent rounds stages will be chosen by the loser of the previous round. The stage selector may not select the last stage they won on in that match (unless their opponent permits them to do so).
