Set Rules
Striking

To chose the first stage of the set, players eliminate stages from the Neutral stage list until there is one stage remaining. Players will rock paper scissors to decide who bans first. The first player strikes the first stage. Then the next player strikes two stages. Then the first player strikes one more stage and the remaining stage is used for the first game of the set.

Counter Picking and Stage Bans
  • In a best of 3 set, after each game of the set, before counter picking, the player who won the previous game may ban one stage from the stage list. The player who had lost the previous game then chooses a counter pick stage from the remaining stage list.
  • in a best of 5 set, after each game of the set, the losing player picks a stage from the whole stage list as a counter pick.
Dave's Stupid Rule

A player may not counter pick any stage they previously won on during the set, unless agreed upon by the opponent.

Additional Rules
Wobbling is Banned

This event’s definition of wobbling is a sequence of more than 3 player-controlled pummels, between each of which the opponent is hit by any number of non-pummel hit-boxes, locking them in continuous grab hit-stun. If able, wobbling should be patched out on the software level using Slippi Nintedont.

Gentleman’s Clause

There is a gentleman’s clause at the event. Players may play on any stage that is not on the legal stage list a and players may agree to change the number of matches to be played in a set as long as it is less, never more (to prevent delay of bracket). Players may not gentleman to a different rule set unless first consulting a tournament organizer.

Pausing

In the event that pause is not turned off, pausing the game is only legal while a player remains upon their OWN re-spawn platform, and only for the purpose of summoning a tournament organizer, or in the event of a controller malfunction. All other pauses will incur at least a one stock loss to the offending player, perhaps more if the offending pause further disrupted the opponent at the discretion of the TO.

Stalling

The act of stalling, or intentionally making the game unplayable, is banned and at the discretion of the TO. Stalling tactics include but are not limited to becoming invisible, infinite combos, chain grabs, or uninterruptible moves past 300%; or abusing a position in which your opponent can never reach you. Any action that can prevent the game from continuing (i.e., pausing, freeze glitches, disappearing characters, game reset, etc.) will result in forfeiture of that match for the offending player. You are responsible for knowing your own character, and must be wary about accidentally triggering these effects.

Timeouts

In the case of a timeout the winner will be determined by stocks and then by percentage. The exception to this is in the case of a player exceeding the ledge grab limit.

Ledge Grab Limit

A ledge grab limit of 45 will be in play for the tournament. In the case of a timeout, if a player has exceeded this limit, they will automatically lose that game.

Ties

In the case of a tie where both players either die on the same frame, or a timeout occurs and both players have the exact same stock count and percent, a 2 stock tie breaker game will be played on the same stage the tie occurred.

Colorblind Clause

Players may request that their opponent change colors to accommodate colorblindness, or if their color is indistinguishable from either the other team color or the stage background. This request must be made before the first game of the set.

Warm-ups

Warm-up periods, button checks, and “hand warmers” may not exceed 60 seconds on the game clock. Violation of this rule may result in forfeiture of a game at the discretion of the tournament organizer. Exceptions can be made in the case of technical difficulties or a tournament staff member asking you to wait.
