Game Version: PC
Tournament Format: This tournament will be a series of elimination rounds instead of a double elimination bracket. Competitors will be split into 4-player groups, with the top 2 players from each group advancing to the next round of the tournament based on the number of lobby points they earn in their group's races.
Game Settings:
- Custom Game
- Local (4-player split screen)
- Game Mode: Race
- Difficulty: Hard / A-Class
- Character Select: Standard mods only
Set Length and Course Selection: Each group will compete in a series of 4 races via split-screen, and each of the 4 players gets to select one race course to play on. (In the cases in which there may only be 3 players in a group, then that group will play only 3 races.) If there is ample time remaining for the final match of the tournament, then the final group may play 8 races instead of 4.
Tiebreakers: If there is a tie for the qualifying spots from any individual group, then the tied players will play one additional race to break the tie. The bracket runner will randomly select a course for them to play.
The general event rules in this section apply to all games unless noted otherwise in the game-specific rule sections. Please makes sure to read and be familiar with BOTH the general rules and individual games rules. These rules are tentative.
Make sure to purchase an event badge from the official website first, and make sure that your start.gg email account matches the email that you used to register for the event! You will be purged from the tournaments if we cannot find you on the event's main attendee list.
Check-in when you arrive at Sonic Expo. There will be a check-in / registration desk in the game room. Stop by when you arrive.
Double elimination. You're not out until you lose twice. Check individual game rules for specific match/set lengths.
A bracket runner will be assigned to instruct the players on who they play against next, when, and on what station. Stay within earshot of them so that you can hear their instructions. They'll also be happy to clarify any questions about rules that you may have. The winner of each match must report their victories to the bracket runner so that the results can be recorded in the bracket.
Be on time! If you're not present when called, you may be disqualified. If you have to leave the tournament area, be it to drop out of the event or just to take a brief bathroom break, then make sure to let the bracket runner know.
Controllers will be provided. You are also permitted to bring and use your own controllers if desired, so long as they're wired and functionally equivalent to basic first-party controllers. (As in: no programmable/cheat devices allowed.) If you wish to use your own wireless controller or if you're unclear on the legality of your device, then ask the tournament staff for assistance.
Don't plug in or remove anything from a tournament station unless instructed to do so by staff.
Don't pause a match that's in-progress or attempt to exploit glitches that crash or otherwise break the game. You may be penalized for it.
Don't disturb or interrupt any other player's match that's in-progress.
A draw game counts as a win for both players unless noted otherwise. The next game of the set, if required, is to be played with identical selections (e.g. both players keep same characters, stage, etc).
