Generally speaking, the preferred controller is a wired Gamecube controller. Controllers with custom firmware including box/leverless style controllers must have firmware that is compliant with the ruleset. Here is a complete list of controllers and their updated compliant firmware filenames, we also discuss a few popular controllers below
Hardware modifications are banned, EXCEPT FOR case modifications (such as notches and cosmetic changes), or hardware-based (ie., not firmware based) snapback and PODE fixes.
All players are expected to abide by these rules at all levels of play including round 1 of pools. First Port Gaming Staff will be checking compliance during ALL PHASES of the tournament.
Melee Ruleset:

Modifications to the above ruleset include:
Wobbling is banned. The technique known as "Wobbling" is defined as a sequence of more than 3 player-controlled pummels by the player-controlled Ice Climber between each of which the opponent is hit with any number of non-pummel hitboxes by the other Climber, plausibly locking them in continuous grab hitstun. "Team Wobbling" in doubles (i.e. one player controlled teammate lands a grab, while the other player controlled teammate uses any move to plausibly lock the grabbed opponent in hitstun) is legal.
Ledgegrab Limit (LGL) of 60 on timeout games, player who performs 60 or more ledgegrabs will receive a game loss.
Turbo functions and macros are banned. Box-style controllers are permitted provided they are updated to the latest firmware of their producer. Tournament organizers have the right to inspect any controller at any time and determine its legality.
All Melee tournament matches will be played on CRT TVs.

2XKO Ruleset:
- Played on PS5
- Matches will be Best 2 out of 3 games until Winners Finals, Loser's Finals, and Grand Finals.
- Winners Finals, Loser's Finals, and Grand Finals will be best 3 out of 5 games
- Double Elimination Bracket
- Game settings: 2 out of 3 Rounds
- Winner must keep character & Fuse
- Loser may switch character & Fuse
Guilty Gear Strive Ruleset:
- Played with PS4 version on PS5
- All matches will be Best 3 out of 5 games
- Double Elimination Bracket.
- Game settings: 2 out of 3 Rounds, 99 Seconds Time Limit
- Winner must keep character
- Loser may switch character
Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 Ruleset:
- Played with PS4 version on PS5
- Matches will be Best 2 out of 3 games until Winners Finals, Loser's Finals, and Grand Finals.
- Winners Finals, Loser's Finals, and Grand Finals will be best 3 out of 5 games
